I've used both separately and both together. the Bauer Splash Guard is a good idea that just didn't work. the CCM mask does the job. I paired mine with a full visor after years of wearing a cage. I'm not a fan of the full visor but it's a compromise I'm willing to make in order to return to play which was needed for my mental health.

one interesting note about the cage/visor debate:

in our league we have been playing since late June. we had probably 10-15 known cases between June and September when we were able to finish Winter season.

since the end of October, the 28th to be exact, we have had around 30 cases in 21 days. our new Winter season started mid-Oct.

over half of those 30 cases have been in our Elite levels which are the only levels that don't require any facial protection at all. it could be just a coincidence but I still find it interesting.

despite my state closing in on 500k total cases, and spiking recently, I highly doubt our governor will require indoor sports facilities to shut down so our league will likely continue to play.

most concerning to me is that after games, teams are continuing to tailgate in the rink parking lots with no masks and standing inches way from each other.

If that's they have to do to make sure there won't be any cases then that's what they have to do.  With any luck your area will then be able to reopen sooner.

Custom everything.

Interesting to see the different rules in North America, when it comes to hockey.
I have played TWICE since march.

My league restarted mid September to shut down October 8th. Sooner it could be back now is January 11.

I still haven't been on the ice since March. It's gotten so bad I literally had a dream about playing last night. Hopeful that since more lakes have frozen up in the mountains I can make the 6 hour drive for a weekend. Not like I'll be playing with other people, but at least I'll be able to skate on ice

it's not just hockey. I was reading the other day about GTA going on 28 day lockdown. here in GA people want to act like everything's normal. the other day I saw EIGHT coworkers hop in 2 pickup trucks to go to lunch, not a mask in sight. when they got back I asked where they went and they said, "that buffet down the road" and I was like WTF???? why would anybody eat in a buffet right now??? later we were talking about the coming vaccines and my boss says, "I'm not getting any vaccine. I don't get flu shots either." I'm like,  WHAT?????

If I haven’t gotten it from work or going through McDonalds or Hortons drive thru I’m not getting it from beer league hockey.

we had a similar breakout in our league. two teams played each other. a few days after, 1 player from Team A became ill. that player is now in the hospital with COVID AND pneumonia. a few days after that, Team B players started testing positive. out of 14 players on Team B, 11 now have COVID, 2 had previously had COVID  and 1 player, the goalie who wears a mask on and off the ice never got COVID.

What are the ODR rules in your area?

Our prime minister gave us permission to have 8 players on the ice between dec 17 and jan 11. (ODR only)

Only pleasure skating (45 minute time slots you book online in advance) is allowed at the outdoor rinks in Toronto. Hockey isn't allowed at all on the outdoor public rinks.

Skated with my wife on the lake for 2 hours yesterday, longest skate since march. I missed it!

Everything melted here in MA. 65 degrees and 3 inches of rain Christmas day. Slated to be in the 40s through atleast the 10th. Crazy. Not even one skate yet on the backyard rink.

I need to reach out to the local rinks and see if this is possible. I'd do this in a heart beat.

Its definitely very cheap out here, its for my citizens only (small community in Mtl).

We are going in lockdown starting saturday for a month, so this will be the last hockey for a while.... :(
